A TALE OF TWO WRITERS

(SORT OF)

H. DAIR (rhymes with "Scare") BROWN

Writes books and stories for people who like to read in that scary place where quiet horror and psychological thrillers overlap. Her anthologies feature a wider range of scary stories from some of the best writers in mystery, suspense, thriller, horror, sci-fi, and fantasy.

LEAU (rhymes with "Go") MACY

Writes escapist, (mostly) closed-door romcoms and light-hearted cozy mysteries (coming soon!). Leau's stories feature complicated, well-meaning wanderers, who always find their happily-ever-afters and/or crack the mystery--often while hanging out in "Bucket List" locations.

And both of them are me! :)

WHEN I'M NOT WRITING

I'm probably absorbing something with a fictional storyline, puttering around with some biz or household shtuff, or just generally acting as an unpaid butler to two very spoiled mutts. My husband and sons make me laugh every day—sometimes even on purpose. My friends make sure I never run out of fun stuff to do.

A sucker for shiny new projects, you’ll find my picture next to "planning fallacy" in the dictionary. I fuel my efforts with iced green tea, a finely tuned rotation of salty and sweet snacks, and questionably sourced optimism. Give me good food, a slow pace, and a new adventure, and I'm in my happy place, probably mangling the language with well-intended enthusiasm.

You can sometimes find me hanging out on some of the usual social media corners, mostly jabbering on about books or travel or books about travel.

"She seems dead set on delivering one of the best stories in every collection she releases... At every step, I could feel how meticulously the story was crafted with callbacks, parallels, and just damn great turns of phrase. It felt like every element of this story pulled double duty as the plot advanced and it all felt organic instead of on the nose. I'm also a big fan of figurative language fitting with the characterization and Dair gave it in spades."

"Interesting, complex characters and important themes. Your imagery is particularly resonant, and the scene with the slave trader is especially chilling."

“'Gemini' by Dair Brown genuinely surprised me. I mean, I have enjoyed all of Dair’s previous stories, so I go into one with a certain degree of expectation. But somehow, she still pulled one over on me and delivered one of my absolute favorites of the collection with a story that’s a continuation of her short “The Block” from Autumn Noir... It’s a fine line to walk, putting poetic lines into prose fiction without it feeling a bit out of place, but Dair did just that multiple times with this story." - Amazon Review

  • Autumn Noir

"A fantastic selection of crime, mystery, and thrillers guaranteed to please short story lovers... Another collection of short stories, this time moving from horror, sci-fi, and fantasy into the genres of crime, mystery, suspense, and thriller. I’m happy to say that I enjoyed this collection even more than the previous one... I thought Dair’s story, in particular, really captured the spirit of the theme All in all, Autumn Noir showcases Dair and Robin's talents, not just with their own writing, but as curators for fantastic stories. This was a great read I would recommend for anyone who loves short stories. Especially if you love crime and thriller stories, check this anthology out. I can’t wait to see what comes next in future anthologies!"

"The Block" was also another incredibly well written and enticing tale..."

"Projection of Shadows is a gripping read that draws you in from the first page.

    H. Dair Brown’s writing is fluid, modern, and dynamic, creating a tense atmosphere that keeps you hooked throughout. The choice to weave a fictional story from a real historical event adds depth and gives the narrative a rich, layered context. The protagonist’s inner struggle with guilt and memory makes this more than just a suspenseful story. Brown is certainly an author to watch. Plus, the stylish cover design perfectly matches the tone of the book!"
